bowtie for Finny

Finn is in a play next week celebrating '100 years of Cardiff!'. He is very excited about being in a play (his first!) His role is a 1930's homeowner, and his costume called for a bow tie, vest and fedora.

Vest: check! Fedora: check! bowtie....
So, off I went, I spent more than a few days searching the local thrift shops for a the perfect bowtie, and stressing over it.

Then this morning, in a moment of clarity, I realized I could simply make one. It seriously only took 20 minutes and a few scraps of wool houndstooth fabric.

I can't believe I was being so silly and that a five years old's bowtie was keeping me up at night. That's where I often get caught...the thinking versus doing.

In the end, it always works out.
(note to self: it always works out. )

special project: walk or bike to school banner

Hot off the presses, the new banner for Cardiff and Ada Harris' Walk or Bike to School Day.

I seem to always be the 'please make this banner look better guy.' Now I just need to walk or bike the kids to school. That Birmingham hill is quite a challenge. Thanks Malley for modeling!

i love san diego & lots of links.

I had quite a marvelous weekend, just one of those 'everything turned out' weekends.

Friday around noon, I decided that I desperately wanted to go to the sold out pinback concert. I ended up getting a ticket, but not before a very 'Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist' sort of afternoon adventure, that had its ups and downs, but in the end worked out. It was a great show with some great friends.

Saturday, I was able to leave the kids at home with the world's most amazing husband, that was busy cleaning the garage, and walk on Cedros with my sis. We stopped by bink & boo's pop up show outside Bixby & Ball. We had some snacks & laughs, and took in all the cute vintage fabrics.

Sunday, all the Otts, including Banner, the wonder dog, headed south to North Park. We had a great day - the weather was a little yuck for a few minutes, but then the sun came out. Tim and I both love breaking out of our suburban bubble from time to time. The Festival of the Arts was a great community event. The kids experienced their first street performer! The highlight was visiting with the amazingly talented Karin Grow, the event's featured artist!

(alright, I know, I have talked about Karin's before, but there are so many things about that I adore..she is home grown, nice as can be, so talented, and has chickens, enough said.)

I hope everyone's weekend was as good for the soul as mine. xo.

word to my mother.

This week has really been a doozy. My absence has been more about my hectic days and less about running out of things to say.

But today is Mother's Day. And having a great mom is like have a perfect winter coat, you are left feeling warm and cozy.

And I was able to spend the day with her. So all is calm.
